The AMG 50-Year Anniversary: A Half-Century of Performance

AMG 50-Year Anniversary

It’s the AMG 50-year anniversary, which is reason to celebrate. As the high-performance division of Mercedes-Benz, AMG has been developing some of the most impressive and capable models in the industry for five decades. AMG also has a strong legacy in motor racing, as it is now one of the most successful brands on the track.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the brand was founded in 1967 as an engine development and production company. The initials “AMG” stand for Aufrecht, Melcher, and Grossaspach—Aufrecht and Melcher were the founders, while Grossaspach was the former’s hometown. By the mid-1970s, the AMG company began working on racing designs, officially signing with Daimler-Benz AG in 1993. In 2007, AMG changed its name to Mercedes-AMG.

“We’re on the road to worldwide success with our strategic portfolio expansion and can look back on a sensational year. The 63 series models still constitute our core product line, and they continue to delight auto enthusiasts around the world. In addition, our AMG GT series, which was developed entirely in-house, is now available as a broad-based family, with which we have impressively demonstrated our expertise as a sports car brand,” said chairman Tobias Moers.

AMG is well-known for its design and production philosophy, which is “one man, one engine.” That means that every engine is hand-crafted by a single builder, demanding incredible precision to detail and allowing for improved performance. Mercedes-Benz’s New Manufacturing Plant Under Construction

Mercedes-Benz is known for luxury vehicles, but the German automaker also produces the popular Sprinter Van. Commonly used for business purposes in the United States, demand has been steadily increasing over the years. Due to high import tariffs, the vans, which were assembled in Germany, have been taken apart, shipped, then reassembled in the United States. In order to simplify the process, the German automaker is building a new manufacturing plant.New Manufacturing Plant

Mercedes-Benz’s new manufacturing plant will be located in North Charleston, South Carolina. The German automaker plans to invest $500 million into building the new plant that will ultimately create 1,300 jobs. The new production center will join the existing Mercedes-Benz plant that reassembles the vans once they arrive in the United States.

Overall, 2015 Sprinter van sales jumped 11% compared to the previous year, coming to a total of 28,000 units moved. With 2016 looking even better, the automaker decided to build the new plant in order to reduce delivery time and avoid the high import tariffs.

“We are combining all of our global expertise and experience in this plant. In doing so, we make it one of the most advanced facilities in North America,” said Frank Klein, Mercedes-Benz Vans, Head of Operations.

Here at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead, we couldn’t be more excited for the building of a new plant here in the United States!

New Mercedes-Benz Golf Car to Go on Sale Next Year

Mercedes-Benz showed off a concept for a high-tech golf cart way back in 2013, and on July 12 of 2016, nearly three years later, the concept became a reality. The Mercedes-Benz Golf Car was built in partnership with golf cart manufacturer Garia and debuted at Royal Troon’s Spectator Village.

The MB Golf Car is the future of golfing. It’s designed in every way to make a golfer’s day on the course easier, from its perfectly angled bag holders for optimum club access to its under-the-seat refrigerator.

Similar in style to a Smart for two besides the door-less sides, the Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Car was designed to combine golf cart and car for the best of both worlds. The car has an integrated touchscreen that gives information about the vehicle, with updates on power consumption and speed, and the game, including a layout of the course and a digital score sheet.

You can even stream music from your phone via Bluetooth. The car has a street-legal max speed of 30 mph and a range of 50 miles on one charge, so you don’t have to worry about the Golf Car running out of juice. Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz doesn’t plan to release this incredibly cool cart until 2017, once it’s collected market feedback.

Mercedes-Benz May Sales 12.9% Higher than April

Mercedes-Benz reported yet another strong sales month, with May sales of 29,299 cars, 2,848 vans, and 420 smarts, bringing the USA total to 32,567 vehicles sold for the month.

The best performers were by far the automaker’s larger models as well as Mercedes-AMG’s high-performance cars. Taking the lead was the C-Class luxury sedan with 6,954 units sold, followed by the GLC-Class luxury crossover with 4,183 units sold, and the GLE-Class luxury SUV with 4,003 units sold. Meanwhile, high-performance models were up 34.6% from last year.

Mercedes-Benz May Sales

The automaker’s Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) models were popular as well, with sales of 11,327 units, up 1% year-to-date. These are some of our most popular vehicles at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead.

Mercedes-Benz May sales were 12.9% higher than in April and particularly successful in China, where they increased by more than a third within five months. In Great Britain, Italy, and Spain too, sales increased around 14%.

So far this year, Mercedes has already sold 818,000 new cars, up 12.3% compared to the same period last year; and it’s only looking up from there.

“Sales continue at a steady pace in the second-quarter,” said Dietmar Exler, president and CEO of MBUSA. “Excitement is building as we look toward the coming months with the launch of three new dream cars, including the S-Class Cabriolet, SL and SLC Roadsters and the all-new E-Class Sedan.”

Mercedes-AMG Model Lineup to Increase After New York Auto Show

mercedes-amg

AMG will be getting some exciting new upgrades and expansions in the upcoming years. Announced at the New York International Auto Show, the chairman of AMG announced that vehicle sales rose a whopping 40%, leading the Mercedes-AMG brand to expand its lineup.

Although nothing is official yet, according to AutoNews(subscription required) the brand will get roughly 10 new nameplates, based on existing Mercedes models. AMG is known for its high-performance design, making it a world leader in street-to-track automotive design and engineering. Plus, the styling is unparalleled, with sleek curves, carbon fiber, chrome and more. Best of all, the Mercedes-AMG model lineup is notorious for rich engine sounds.

“We’re going to expand our portfolio to 48 different models by the end of the year,” said Tobias Moers, chairman of AMG. “Stand-alone AMG showrooms are getting feasible worldwide. We are going to open up one in Japan, and we’re having a discussion in Australia about that.”

Roughly a dozen dealerships in the US have a dedicated AMG showroom, which will likely see an expansion thanks to good sales. Mercedes announced this number may be expanding to over 100 in upcoming years. We can’t wait to see more AMG models on the road. What do you think of this incredible news? Tell us below!

Mercedes-Benz-Nintendo Partnership Resurfaces

It’s not often we hear about the Mercedes-Benz-Nintendo partnership but when we do, it usually brings an interesting marketing move with it. That’s certainly true with the newest addition, centering on the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Super Mario Maker, and Mario Kart 8. The latest tactic targets adults who grew up with Mario in their youth.

The game and auto makers started their partnership off right with free downloadable content,(or DLC), for Mario Kart 8. The free DLC include a 1957 300 SL Roadster sports car, a 1934 W 25 Silver Arrow formula racing car, and the modern GLA.

The Super Mario Maker course, titled “Mercedes-Benz Jump’n’Drive” takes the player through a dealership, taking a test drive through the city, and hitting the Autobahn! Once a player completes the level, a Mercedes-Benz GLA with Mario in the driver’s seat is unlocked.

This isn’t some shoddy, half-hearted marketing ploy either. Mercedes-Benz put their heart and soul into designing the Super Mario Maker level.

“While we received a lot of positive feedback on the campaign and the integration of our cars into Mario Kart 8, we also learned that many gamers are skeptical about brands appearing in their games,” said Caroline Pilz, head of product placement and fashion sponsoring. “So we made sure to put a lot of effort and passion into designing the actual level.”

We here at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead are proud to see free, fun content that anyone can enjoy!

Picking a New Year’s Resolution

Resolution

A New Year’s resolution is a goal you set for yourself to be completed by the end of the year. It needs to be something you can do consistently or work on year-round. That can make it difficult to pick an accomplish-able New Year’s resolution. If you’re having trouble, take a look at some suggestions from us here at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead!

  1. Manage Your Finances. Whether you were over budget last year, have debts to pay, or just want to save more money this year, managing your finances is the way to do it. Cutting out unnecessary spending isn’t too difficult if you draw up a weekly budget that includes food, travel, and housing. Sticking to the budget, however, is a different story.
  2. Get Organized. If you’re bad at cleaning up after yourself, you may have already found your resolution! Getting organized is something you can keep up with on a day-to-day basis. Starting small, like picking clothes up off the floor, can go a long way!
  3. Learn a Language. If you’ve ever tried to learn another language, you already know it’s more difficult than it first seems. Spending half an hour each day can get the gears churning and if you stick to it, you’ll be serenading others in a new tongue before you know it!

Learning a language, organizing more and managing finances isn’t easy. Nor is any New Years resolution. Perseverance is the most important aspect at work here. The core of every goal you make is the drive to keep doing it. So always make sure to stay on point and you’ll accomplish more than you imagined by next year.

Mercedes-Benz Vision Concept: Autonomous Van Technology

The new Mercedes-Benz Vision Concept is causing quite a stir. This sleek multi-purpose vehicle looks like its straight out of the future, with a contoured silhouette and metallic exterior. Though little is known about this model, we can’t wait to see how it performs.

According to Carscoops, the Vision made its premier at the Tokyo Motor Show, taking the form of a high-tech minivan. Described as “autonomous, luxurious, and progressive” and
a vision for future generations” by Mercedes-Benz. This car will have the latest in automotive technologies.

This autonomous van concept is truly one of a kind, made to work as a passenger vehicle, not commercial. Not only is the design progressive, but under the hood this model is a plug-in hybrid set-up with a lithium-ion battery, hydrogen fuel cell, and electric motor powertrain.

The exterior is somewhat reminiscent of old Citroen concept vans, but we like to think it also takes design cues from the DMC DeLorean from “Back to the Future.” We’re excited to see how this model performs on the actual road.

Who knows, maybe if you accelerate to just the right speed something spectacular could happen.

Going to the future is what we mean by that, in case you missed it.

Mercedes-Benz Unveils Concept IAA Vehicle

Mercedes-Benz vehicles have always transformed the way that people drive their cars. However, with the arrival of the Mercedes-Benz “Concept IAA”, its cars will also transform in ways never imagined.

What does IAA stand for? Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile, and that should provide a clue as to what makes the car so special and innovative.

The advanced technology behind the concept IAA allows it to adapt to any environment. When it reaches a speed of 50 mph, it can change its shape to become more aerodynamic on the road. With a more adaptive design, the IAA concept car can speed ahead in the most optimal way possible.

Improved aerodynamics also means better fuel economy on the road. Technology that keeps money in your pocket is always a sure deal.

In the past, cars that transformed were only seen in movies and television shows. However, Mercedes-Benz is working to make science fiction a science-based reality.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Launch Date Announced for New SUV

Visually, the new GLC will have similarities to other current Mercedes-Benz models, and it is larger in general, gaining two inches in width and five inches in length, which translates to a more spacious interior.

The GLC will boast many new features, including a power driver’s seat with memory, power folding mirrors, a rear-view camera, power tailgate, KEYLESS-Start, touch-pad, Collision Prevention Assist Plus (CPA+), pre-safe, crosswind stabilization, and an integrated garage door opener.

Plus, this upgraded SUV combines incredible power and impressive design, offering a smooth, seamless ride. Interested in learning more about this luxurious new SUV? Get in touch with us or visit us at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead before the Mercedes-Benz GLC launch.
