Pop the popcorn! Warm up some hot chocolate! Take a break from Christmas shopping and settle into the holiday spirit with one of these excellent Christmas movies on Netflix.
Is there really any better way to tell Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” than with Bill Murray in the 1980s? Murray plays a jaded television executive who gets a reality check when the ghosts of Christmas pay him a visit. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll want to watch it again next year.
‘Christmas with the Kranks’
If a good laugh is what you’re after, the Kranks are your people. Watch as Tim “the Toolman” Taylor—er, that is, Tim Allen—and Jamie Lee Curtis try to skip Christmas in favor of a Caribbean cruise. Leaving their traditions behind is not as easy as they expect.
Another fun and slightly less traditional Christmas movie, “The Ref” is Kevin Spacey’s holiday black comedy.
It’s hard to believe “Love Actually” is over ten years old. This comedy-drama features an outstanding cast (including The Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes) and follows several endearing plotlines. It’s a new classic you’ll want to add to your annual viewing list. Oh, and good luck getting character Billy Mack’s song “Christmas is All Around” out of your head.
‘Fireplace For You Home’
If you want to set a mood without setting yourself up for too much distraction, why not just play Netflix’s ambient fireplace video? With a little Christmas music in the background to accompany it, this video is sure to make gift wrapping all the merrier.
With National Christmas Tree Day just behind us and the holidays right around the corner, most readers probably already have their tree. Even so, it’s never too late to add a little extra pizzazz to your decorations, or to give them a personal twist. Here are several Christmas tree decorating ideas that will give you a new spin this year and for the years to come.
Make it Personal
If you’re reevaluating your tree’s decorations, consider what theme will mean a lot to you and your family. Perhaps you like to travel a lot, in which case you could collect ornaments that represent your favorite voyages. If you like the outdoors, opt for DIY pinecone ornaments, deer, owls, and other woodsy decorations. Find what suits you best!
Think Outside the Tree Skirt
Instead of using traditional accessories like a tree skirt, why not mix it up? You can use a vintage tin or pale as a container for a tree for a rustic spin. Or, instead of sticking with a wintery color scheme, add a little spring to your Christmas tree. Decorate with a winding wreath of silk flowers for a fresh look.
For a new twist using what you already have, create an ombre rainbow effect by color coordinating your ornaments. Start with purple or red at the top and work your way through the spectrum. You’ll never look at your tree the same way again!
Mercedes-Benz showed off a concept for a high-tech golf cart way back in 2013, and on July 12 of 2016, nearly three years later, the concept became a reality. The Mercedes-Benz Golf Car was built in partnership with golf cart manufacturer Garia and debuted at Royal Troon’s Spectator Village.
The MB Golf Car is the future of golfing. It’s designed in every way to make a golfer’s day on the course easier, from its perfectly angled bag holders for optimum club access to its under-the-seat refrigerator.
Similar in style to a Smart for two besides the door-less sides, the Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Car was designed to combine golf cart and car for the best of both worlds. The car has an integrated touchscreen that gives information about the vehicle, with updates on power consumption and speed, and the game, including a layout of the course and a digital score sheet.
You can even stream music from your phone via Bluetooth. The car has a street-legal max speed of 30 mph and a range of 50 miles on one charge, so you don’t have to worry about the Golf Car running out of juice. Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz doesn’t plan to release this incredibly cool cart until 2017, once it’s collected market feedback.
There’s no denying that Muhammad Ali was one of the greatest boxers of our time, but did you know he also owned a bejeweled Mercedes that was as flamboyant as his personality?\
Nicknamed the “Golden Angel Wing,” Ali’s ride was a 1959 Mercedes-Benz 220S worth more than most of us make in a lifetime. It features 270 precious stones and jewels, including diamonds, and 23-karat gold flourishes on the bumpers, grill, headlamp assembly, all the knobs and switches, and even the accelerator pedal. We’ve got some luxurious cars here at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead, but none quite like that!
As you might expect, he didn’t really drive the car. The mileage on it is not much more than 500 miles and Ali only owned it for about two years in the 1980s after it was gifted to him. However, he did say he wished for it to be used or displayed to “benefit mankind” after he passed it on.
He’s going to get his wish, as Muhammad Ali’s bejeweled Mercedes-Benz is estimated to be worth around $1.5 million and will go up for auction, with the proceeds going to fight global world hunger.
That’s a way to pay it forward in honor of a visionary this world always looked up to.
It’s not often we hear about the Mercedes-Benz-Nintendo partnership but when we do, it usually brings an interesting marketing move with it. That’s certainly true with the newest addition, centering on the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Super Mario Maker, and Mario Kart 8. The latest tactic targets adults who grew up with Mario in their youth.
The game and auto makers started their partnership off right with free downloadable content,(or DLC), for Mario Kart 8. The free DLC include a 1957 300 SL Roadster sports car, a 1934 W 25 Silver Arrow formula racing car, and the modern GLA.
The Super Mario Maker course, titled “Mercedes-Benz Jump’n’Drive” takes the player through a dealership, taking a test drive through the city, and hitting the Autobahn! Once a player completes the level, a Mercedes-Benz GLA with Mario in the driver’s seat is unlocked.
This isn’t some shoddy, half-hearted marketing ploy either. Mercedes-Benz put their heart and soul into designing the Super Mario Maker level.
“While we received a lot of positive feedback on the campaign and the integration of our cars into Mario Kart 8, we also learned that many gamers are skeptical about brands appearing in their games,” said Caroline Pilz, head of product placement and fashion sponsoring. “So we made sure to put a lot of effort and passion into designing the actual level.”
We here at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead are proud to see free, fun content that anyone can enjoy!
A New Year’s resolution is a goal you set for yourself to be completed by the end of the year. It needs to be something you can do consistently or work on year-round. That can make it difficult to pick an accomplish-able New Year’s resolution. If you’re having trouble, take a look at some suggestions from us here at Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead!
- Manage Your Finances. Whether you were over budget last year, have debts to pay, or just want to save more money this year, managing your finances is the way to do it. Cutting out unnecessary spending isn’t too difficult if you draw up a weekly budget that includes food, travel, and housing. Sticking to the budget, however, is a different story.
- Get Organized. If you’re bad at cleaning up after yourself, you may have already found your resolution! Getting organized is something you can keep up with on a day-to-day basis. Starting small, like picking clothes up off the floor, can go a long way!
- Learn a Language. If you’ve ever tried to learn another language, you already know it’s more difficult than it first seems. Spending half an hour each day can get the gears churning and if you stick to it, you’ll be serenading others in a new tongue before you know it!
Learning a language, organizing more and managing finances isn’t easy. Nor is any New Years resolution. Perseverance is the most important aspect at work here. The core of every goal you make is the drive to keep doing it. So always make sure to stay on point and you’ll accomplish more than you imagined by next year.
Everyone has their special Holiday traditions, whether that’s chopping down your own tree or being the one to light the menorah.
